~Why Does Everyone Sits Under Cherry Blossom Trees in Japan?~
Whoa… why are there so many people sitting under trees in the park?!
Are they all waiting for something?
Haha not. They’re doing something called “Hanami,” which means “flower viewing.”
It’s a traditional Japanese event where people gather to enjoy the beauty of cherry blossoms, Japan’s national flower.
Actually, there are a few places in Sweden where you can see cherry blossoms,
and I had experienced a kind of hanami there before.
But I still remember how amazed I was when I experienced a real “Hanami” in Japan for the first time.
it was truly unforgettable!
But… everyone just… sits under the trees and stares at the cherry blossoms?
That’s it?
It’s more fun than it sounds!
When the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, friends, families, and even coworkers gather in parks or along rivers.
They lay out picnic sheets, bring food and drinks,
and just enjoy the moment together under a sky full of pink flowers.
Some people even bring bento boxes, alcohol drinks, or snacks.
I’ve seen mini barbecues too! It’s super chill.
You’re just relaxing, laughing, eating, and admiring nature.
Sounds fancy! Is there a special place where you have to do it?
Actually, there are famous “Hanami” spots all over Japan, especially in parks and riverside areas where lots of cherry trees are planted.
These places get really lively during the season,
with people spreading picnic blankets early in the morning to grab the best spots!
I still remember our first “Hanami” in Yoyogi park in Tokyo and it was packed!
But the cherry blossoms were stunning, like fluffy pink clouds everywhere.
Aww, I can’t wait! Let’s go have our own “Hanami” soon!
